Jury Trial October 12, 2021
Following a jury trial at the McKean County Courthouse on October 12, 2021, Christopher Julian was convicted of crimes related to shooting a dog in Mount Jewett. The defendant was convicted of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals (Deadly Weapon Used) ; Defiant Trespass; and Cruelty to Animals (Deadly Weapon Used). He was found not guilty of Attempt.
The charges stemmed from an investigation into the defendant’s actions in regards to shooting a dog in the back at a Mount Jewett property where he was previously warned not to enter by the property owner. The dog was treated by veterinarians in Smethport and Orchard Park and survived. The case was investigated by Trooper Christopher Barr of the Pennsylvania State Police-Lewis Run. District Attorney Stephanie L. Vettenburg-Shaffer prosecuted the case on behalf of the Commonwealth. The Judge scheduled sentencing for December 2, 2021.
On March 10, 2022, Christopher Julian was sentenced to 15 months to 36 months in the Department of Corrections. The Court also ordered that he not own animals or firearms and he was ordered to pay restitution to the dog’s owner.
