Jury Trial July 27, 2020
Today was the first jury trial in McKean County since COVID19 safety protocols have been in place. The trial that was held was CW v. Michael Schoonover. The defendant was convicted of Resisting Arrest, Simple Assault on an officer and Disorderly Conduct. He was acquitted of a count of aggravated assault. The charges stem from an incident that occurred at the Chestnut Street Uni-mart on March 13, 2019. Officers with Bradford City Police responded to a report of a disturbance and, when attempting to take the defendant into custody, he resisted arrest. Officer Clayton Yohe filed the charges and was assisted in the arrest by Officers Strawcutter and Shephard. District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer prosecuted the case on behalf of the Commonwealth. Schoonover was sentenced by Judge John H. Pavlock to 7 months to 14 months in McKean County Jail.
