On 09-05-18 at approximately 1000 hrs, City of Bradford Police received a report of theft from 8 Elm St. Bradford PA 16701. This is an Evergreen Elm assisted living house for adult males. The victim Dan Catt reported that overnight he had gone out for a while and when he returned to his room he found the room to had been rummaged through and everything was out of place. Catt then realized his X-Box Game System, DVD Player, and a Cell Phone Charging Cord were all gone from his room. Catt reported he never gave anyone permission to enter his room and use or take these items. Catt did not have any suspects initially.
Evergreen Elm assisted in this investigation with their client Catt. They were able to provide surveillance footage from 09-05-18 on the exterior of the home. This was a brand new security surveillance system recently installed on this new structure. This was also a keyed building requiring the person entering to possess a key in order to enter.
The surveillance footage showed clear view of a known male Precious A. McBride whom was a past tenant entering the building at 0138 hrs. McBride was not a tenant at this time and had no rights or property in the structure. McBride had been asked several times to return the key and was advised he was not to be on property. McBride had been terminated as a resident after he had been incarcerated on a separate charge some time ago.
The video shows when McBride approaches the door he is looking around to see if anyone is looking. Then he enters the multi tenant structure empty handed and approximately 10 minutes later is seen sneaking out of the building carrying what appears to be a pillow case and it is full of property. The pillow case has items in it that are distinct in shape such as a square that appears to be consistent with that of an X-Box Game System or the DVD Player.
Precious A. McBride has a history of entering this building since he was removed as a tenant. McBride was caught once prior stealing a large screen TV from the building but returned it at the request of staff. McBride was not charged with that theft but again was warned to not return there and that he needed to turn in the key. McBride knows these other clients that live in this assisted living home and knows what type of property is in their rooms. McBride also knows that there is no staff there at night and that he can freely move within the facility without being noticed by employees. What McBride didn't know was that the facility had just installed the new surveillance system that captured him committing this burglary of Catt's property.
